What we collect, and why.
Last updated August 21, 2026.
MindCraft pairs students with real tutors and an AI study companion, Jesse. This page describes, plainly, what data that requires, who else ever sees it, and how to have yours deleted. If a section here is ever unclear, email us and ask, we'd rather explain it than have you guess.
The short version
We collect what's needed to run tutoring sessions and power Jesse's help: your account info, session notes and recordings, and what you type or say to Jesse. We never sell your data. Some of it is processed by AI providers (Anthropic, Groq) to generate responses, and some by service providers we use to run the product (Firebase, Fireflies, Calendly). We don't run ads and we don't track you across other apps or websites. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time.
What we collect
| Category | What, and why |
|---|---|
| Account | Name, email, and a profile photo if your sign-in provider gives us one. Used to identify you and connect you to the right sessions, tutor, or student. |
| Session content | Tutoring session summaries, transcripts, and notes, whether typed or recorded. Used to build your knowledge map and let you review past sessions. |
| Conversations with Jesse | Voice audio (transcribed, not stored as audio after processing), typed questions, homework problems, and resume or career content you share. Sent to an AI provider to generate a response, see "AI processing" below. |
| Learning data | Which concepts you've practiced, how you did, and what you seem to understand or struggle with. Used to recommend what to study next. |
| Location (optional) | Only if you tap "use my location" to find nearby tutors. Not collected otherwise, not stored beyond that search. |
| Calendar and email (optional) | Only if you connect Google Calendar or Gmail yourself, to schedule sessions or triage your inbox inside the app. You can disconnect this at any time from Settings. |
| Device and usage | Basic technical data (crash logs, which features you use) to keep the app working and fix bugs. Not used for advertising. |
AI processing, disclosed plainly
When you talk to Jesse, ask for homework help, or use tools that generate written content (a resume draft, an email reply, a study explanation), what you type or say is sent to a third-party AI provider, currently Anthropic (Claude) or Groq, to generate the response. This is how those features work; there is no way to use them without that content leaving our servers to be processed.
These providers process the content to generate a reply and do not use it to train their own models under our agreements with them. We choose what gets sent (the specific question or transcript, not your whole account), and responses come back to you the same way any other app feature would.
Voice conversations with Jesse are transcribed to text for processing; we do not keep the raw audio after that.
Who else sees your data
We use a small number of service providers to run MindCraft. Each only sees what it needs to do its job:
- Firebase (Google) — accounts, sign-in, and where your data is stored.
- Anthropic and Groq — generate Jesse's responses and other AI-written content, as described above.
- Fireflies.ai — records and transcribes live tutoring sessions when a tutor uses it.
- Calendly — session scheduling, if a tutor uses it to book with you.
- Google Sign-In, Calendar, Gmail, Drive — only if you connect them yourself, and only for what you connected them to do.
We do not sell your data to anyone, for any reason. We do not run advertising and we do not share your data with data brokers or ad networks.
Tutors, parents, and students
If you're a student, your assigned tutor can see your session history and knowledge map so they can actually help you. If a parent account is linked to yours, they can see the same. Tutors and parents cannot see other students they aren't connected to, that's enforced by our backend, not just app-side.
Data for students under 18
MindCraft is built for high school and college-age students. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13, and the app isn't directed at that age group. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
- Delete your account. Email privacy@joinmindcraft.com from your account's email address and we'll delete your profile, session history, and learning data. We'll confirm once it's done.
- Disconnect Google services. Turn off Gmail/Calendar/Drive access any time from Settings, or revoke access directly from your Google account.
- Ask what we have. Email us and we'll tell you what's on file for your account.
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and access to it is restricted by server-side rules, not just app-side checks, so one student's data isn't reachable by another's account even if the app were tricked into asking. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat this seriously and keep tightening it.
Changes to this policy
If this changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and, for anything material, tell you in the app directly rather than relying on you finding this page again.
